A Chinese-style of Virgin Mary is seen at Cathedral of Our Lady of China in Tainan, Taiwan, 2015. According to the official history, the then-archbishop during the cathedral's construction wanted to build a house of worship that brings Christianity closer to the local populace by adopting the local customs. The cathedral is a testament of the willingness of Catholicism to forgo its European background to blend in with the locals.
