China has some of the most serious desertification in the world. About 27 per cent, or 2.5 million sq. kms of the country comprises desert. Minqin County of northwest China's Gansu Province is surrounded on three sides by the deserts. It is located in between the Tengger Desert and the Badain Jaran Desert. Locals are fighting a uphill battle against desertification.
