I am an independent photographer and consultant, based in Beijing. My work is mainly focused on China.
I started my photojournalist career as a news photographer / sub-editor for United Press International (UPI) in 1983. I joined Reuters in 1985, and in a span of 20 years, I worked as sub-editor, photographer, chief photographer and deputy news pictures editor (Asia Pacific) at different Reuters news bureaux and headquarters including Hong Kong, London, Singapore and Beijing. From 1998 to 2004, I worked as chief photographer at Reuters Beijing bureau where I took care of the greater China region. Upon joining Getty Images at the end of 2004, I set up their first editorial headquarters in China and was in charge of the operation until the end of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
I had been member of the nomination committee for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass from 2000 to 2018, and served as jury member of the World Press Photo Contest in 1998 and 2003 respectively.
